When driving at night, it is essential to use headlights because they are specifically designed to illuminate the road ahead, allowing you to see potential hazards, road signs, and other vehicles clearly. Headlights also help other road users see you, enhancing safety for everyone on the road. They are required by law to be used from sunset to sunrise and in conditions of poor visibility, such as rain or fog.

Fog lights, while useful in certain weather conditions, can create glare for other drivers when used unnecessarily. Turn signals are critical for indicating your intentions to other drivers but do not provide illumination for safe nighttime driving. Parking lights, typically used when your vehicle is stationary, do not provide adequate visibility for driving at night. Therefore, using headlights is crucial for both your safety and the safety of other road users during nighttime driving.
